This took me forever to figure out so I am writing a guide for future exhibition teams (and myself because I still forget how to do certain things).

logging in

If you’ve made it this far, you’ve probably realized that you have to log into WordPress by going to and using the SMC credentials there, rather than searching high and low on the gallery 160 page for a login button. If not, then that’s how you do it. Tell all your friends.

first exhibition coming in hot! yikes what do I do???

okay, you are going to need to post 4 things per exhibition:

  1. curatorial statement
  2. press release
  3. flyer
  4. photo gallery of the actual exhibition.

(for the curation statement/ press release) title your post, copy and paste the text from whoever is in charge of writing, then observe the left-hand side of the new post page.

<- you should see something like this.


click on categories and tags, this is how you keep everything organized by exhibit. after you click, a drop down list of already created categories will appear. at the bottom of the list is a button that says  ADD NEW CATEGORY click that and type the name of your exhibition. (also, scroll down and unclick uncategorized. for some reason that is always automatically tagged and won’t go away unless you unclick it.)

now scroll down a bit to the tags box. If the post is for your current exhibition, type the word featured. this will put your post on the front page of the website in a lil slideshow.


you will also need to untag featured from all of the previous exhibition’s posts so that they aren’t in the slideshow too. I’ll explain that later.

you will need to add a featured image, it just makes the slideshow prettier.

click featured image>set featured image>add new and upload a picture from the show. if the photo person hasn’t taken pictures yet or you dont have any pictures, it’s okay to leave this blank for now, but once you get those pictures come back to your posts and set featured images.

(for the flyer) title the post “flyer for (exhibition name)” (or whaterver tf you want) then set a picture of the flyer as the featured image. then follow the same steps listed above for the categories and tags.

(for the gallery of photos from the exhibit) click the button for post format and select gallery. then title your post. I usually say something like “[exhibit] was a huge success!” so that if someone actually sees this online they think that our student exhibits are really poppin on campus. next, click this button Screen Shot 2016-04-01 at 5.22.02 PMto add photos to the body of the post. then upload or select all of your photos from the exhibition opening. for the layout select Thumbnail Grid.

untagging featured posts

I promised I’d tell you how to do this so here I am. there are two options here:

  1. go through every post from the previous exhibit and edit them and delete the featured tag
  2. jk I looked at the other way and it’s pretty complicated so just stick to the first method.


now you’re ready to make a page for your exhibit!!!!

to move the last exhibit from current exhibitions to previous exhibitions you need to check out the menus.

click on My Site at the top left of whatever page you’re on,







then click on Menus

click on the little pencil by the exhibition you want to move, scroll down a bit and click the Move button.

click MOVE HERE next to the Previous Exhibitions folder, then click Move item to children.



to create a page for your new exhibit under Current Exhibitions:

click the little plus sign (+) next to Current Exhibitions, then click Add menu item to children, then click Category from the drop down menu and select your exhibit (you should have created this category when you made your first post.)

now everything saved under your exhibit’s category will show up when you click its page!

student profiles 

you’re gonna have to take a picture of the exhibit squad and put it on the website. make a post and categorize it under profiles. Use the squad pic as the featured image and caption it accordingly. that’s all.
