MORAGA, CALIFORNIA….The Department of Art and Art History at Saint Mary’s College announces the opening of an exhibition of children’s art, entitled River of Words, at Gallery 160 on the Saint Mary’s campus in Moraga. The exhibition opens September 30 and will run through October 28, with an opening reception on Friday, October 3rd at 2 pm.

The exhibition showcases art and poetry created by children of all ages and various cultures, collected by River of Words, an international program that combines art education with environmental education. River of Words encourages children to learn their “ecological address” through observation, exploration, creative expression and community action. Their annual environmental poetry and art contest, conducted in affiliation with The Library of Congress, draws entries from around United States and over twenty other countries. Submissions are judged by River of Words co-founders, Robert Hass and Pamela Michael. River of Words is a program of Saint Mary’s Center for Environmental Literacy in the Kalmanovitz School of Education.

Gallery 160 is located in Brother Cornelius Art Center at Saint Mary’s College, 1928 Saint Mary’s Road in Moraga. Admission is free.
